About

Hi, I'm Anne!

I knitted this blanket whilst island hopping up the west coast of Scotland on my motorbike in 2019. I bought wool as I went, knitted squares and posted them home to myself.

One square knitted up like a stormy Hebridean beach scene and it had been on my mind that it would make a good whole blanket theme - a blanketscape!

So the idea was born of designing textured squares as building blocks of a landscape, using photos of the textures in nature as inspiration.

Covid lockdowns meant I initially had to stay local, but living in Devon means I am lucky enough to live close enough to cycle to Dawlish Warren, so the first blanket had a local theme, rather than anywhere further flung.

I made some of the early square patterns available on the website here for free, these will stay here, but the newer squares will only be available in the book.  If you enjoy making the free patterns, please consider buying the book to support the creative industry.  Please credit @blanketscapes on Instagram or Facebook for your final creations, I'd love to see what you make.

While I have made the patterns available for free but they are © Blanketscapes, the patterns are not to be copied or resold. I'm happy for you to make and sell finished blankets using these patterns for charitable, non-commercial, purposes only.

Thanks to Emilie (@emgrandclement) for the cycling company and photography assistance, Anne-Marie for social media advice, and Isabel and my work wool craft group for supporting and humouring me throughout.

Thanks also to Dedri Uys for giving me the confidence to do this!
